Cry [TRC; SyaoSak]
Title: Cry
Series: TRC
Pairing: SyaoSak
Rating: PG
Length: about 500 words, part (20/30) of prompts table
Sakura smiled blandly at the gentle boy in front of her. Although she barely knew him, she was always put at ease by his reassuring manner and kind words.
“I’m sorry for being such a bother, Syaoran-kun,” she said softly, just to hear his name coming from her. It was such a nice name; she enjoyed saying it as much as she would have the name of an old and dear friend.
“Not at all, Hime,” he replied immediately, as she had known he would. “You’re no bother at all.” Sakura knew that if she asked him again why he would do this for a complete stranger, the sadness he wore on his face right now would deepen and he would look away without answering.
“I’m really glad you’re doing all of this for me, Syaoran-kun,” she looked shyly at him. “Fai-kun and Kurogane-san and Mokona, too. I’m still not sure what happened, but I hope I’ll be able to repay you all in the end.”
Syaoran bowed his head. “As long as you smile, Hime, we will have all the thanks we need.”
“But I feel so useless,” she sighed, almost bitterly. “And you’re always risking your life for me.”
“Hardly,” he reassured her. “Just knowing that you’re waiting for me assures that I will return.”
“Mmm,” Sakura responded, unconvinced. She could feel her strength slipping away. “I’m sorry Syaoran-kun, but I think I’d like to sleep now.”
He hastily proclaimed that it was no problem at all and stood to leave.
“Ano, Syaoran-kun …” She blushed faintly, holding out her hand. “I’d like for your face to be the first thing I see when I wake up.”
A smile burst through onto the boy’s face, so happy that Sakura was nearly overwhelmed by what a simple sentence from her could do. He sat down again and clasped Sakura’s hand gently. “Of course, Hime. I’ll stay by you as you sleep.”
“Thank you,” she whispered as she drifted off, her hand warm in Syaoran’s.

Fai returned with Kurogane and Mokona to find that the sun had turned to moonlight on the two young travelers. Syaoran was slumped against the side of the bed, holding Sakura’s hand tightly even as they both slept.
Although Kurogane passed by the princess’s room without a second glance, Mokona bouncing around him, Fai slipped into the darkness and shut the door behind him. He leaned against the wall, smiling softly at the two.
The smile soon turned bitter, as the thought of all he knew and was keeping hidden returned to him. He could see no possible happy ending for the young archeologist and the princess of their desert country. Unwilling to stay in the room any longer, Fai exited and walked down the hall.
In the room he had left behind, two artificial souls cried out as they struggled to obtain the impossible – together.
